Dino Stamatopoulos interview
The creater of morel orel sits down to do an interview with adult swim about his new show Frankenhole
what is Frankenhole about?
It's about Victor Frankenstein, the mad genius who mastered immortality and now has also created an infinite number of portals (or Frankenholes) connecting his small, Eastern European village (that is teaming with monsters and supernatural forces) to every time period from the past and the future. This way, all sorts of historical characters can come and get endless types of operations done to them and have countless monsters kill and curse them, carelessly changing the course of history simply on stupid childish whims. Gandhi can graft his head onto Oliver Hardy's body so he can hunger strike longer, but then he gets bitten by a werewolf and he breaks his hunger strike by devouring Mike Tyson (that's not one of the episodes, by the way. I just made that up).
You have a lot of Frankenstein Monster models and stuff in your office. What is so appealing about these classic monsters to you?
I have tons of models that I obsessively bought over a nine month period that, not too coincidentally, coincided with the gestation of my child. Through my fear of the impending reality to come, I reverted back to my childhood and sequestered myself in a fantasy world where death and life entangled themselves indelibly. Simply put: I was nervous about having a kid so I bought a lot of toys.
How would you compare this show tonally to Moral Orel?
It's Stopmotion and a lot of it is coming out of my brain and some of it is coming out of Scott Adsit's brain and Jay Johnston's brain and Mark Rivers' brain and other people who were involved in Moral Orel. Other than that, I think it will be very different.
